Enamoring, a bit of gentle romantic theatrics that pulls at you, a lingering lullaby melody to soak your heartbeat in, Emma Louise is a bit of sunshine. On her latest album, Sunshine For Happiness this songwriting mainstay feels like a proper mood, with a tempo for long sips of dark red at the wine bar, we felt we had to dig in a bit for an artist we’ve always treated as more inspo to our current roster than anything, we were delighted she allowed us to pepper her with some spicy asks via the old otter exchange here: 

OnesToWatch: Who is Emma Louise? 

Emma Louise: She is a skin suit that I put on sometimes. She writes songs and sings. 

Can we trade you some LA sunshine for happiness?

Bless you, but no thank you. It’s raining in New South Wales Australia right now but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I lived in LA for the last 10 years or so and although it was fun, I’m so happy to be back home. I’d take the rain here over LA sunshine any day.

What is your most happy state? 

When I am in a routine that I can rely on. One that is taking care of my mind and body and soul and allowing me to be free to make music, paintings or ceramics. 

Any collaborators or features? Who produced the album? 

I wrote all these songs by myself, but then took them into the studio with Tobias jesso Junior and Shawn Everett as the producers along with my incredible band. 

Describe your music as color / activity / place?

I can’t help but describe it as yellow. It could be the album or the title of it but when I close my eyes, I’m seeing yellow. And I’m laying in a field, sky gazing and somehow watching my life play out in front of me in some kind of holographic format. Is that abstract? [Laughs]

Besides this excellent album what else should we be on the lookout for? 

Well, I do have another album that I recorded in Greece a few years ago. So I might release that one soon. Otherwise, I’m going to get into painting and sculpture once I’m settled in here in Australia again.

Take us on a date: where do we go? What do we do? 

Well, for starters we’re not going anywhere. You are simply coming to my house and we might order takeout and talk on my couch? I have to really like somebody or have a good feeling about them to actually go on a date outside of the house with them. I’ve never really dated very much lol. I tend to be he befriend-and-end-up-together type, it seems. 

Whats inspiring you right now outside of music? 

Honestly, I’m not feeling too inspired right now. I’m just getting settled back in Australia. I know I’ve got the juices there underneath all of the practical life admin stuff I need to get through first. I am inspired by the possible inspirations I’m going to have soon.

Food group / activity best suited to enjoying your work? 

Wow. I’m not want to force my opinion onto any thing. And I certainly don’t want a pigeonhole anybody. You do whatever you want when you listen to my music. Whaattteeeeeverrr you feel.
